Apprentices are employed for a period of two years with academic study (1 day per week) forming part of this programme. Experience is gained by working on the job and Apprentices will be required to complete assignments and examinations for both their academic study and work based placements, ensuring that they receive the correct preparation for positioning themselves for their future careers.
THE LOGISTICS & SUPPLY CHAIN INDUSTRIES OFFER A VARIETY OF ROLES ACROSS ITS MANY EMPLOYER TYPES:
- Shipping companies can find Apprentices based in the Docklands working in offices alongside Vessels loading Containers
- Those employed in Freight Forwarding offices can get an insight into preparing and planning the geographical route and selection factors for cargo to take across international borders
- Distribution companies can see Apprentices operating within some of the Countries largest Warehouses, operating the latest technology to track, trace and store all types of cargo before preparing for final distribution

Apprentices will be assigned a workplace Mentor who will guide Apprentice through their journey on this programme. Mentors are individuals with years of industry experience and are trained by TU Dublin and MTU to carry out this role. Their responsibility is to ensure that Apprentices hit their makers along the two-year journey and provide knowledge and insight where an Apprentice requires support.
LISTING OF THE LAA APPRENTICESHIP PROGRESSION ROUTES:
- BSc, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, TU Dublin, this is a 4-year full-time Level 8 Programme to which a student may progress to continue full-time study. Entry at year 2 provided they achieve 60% overall as part of their Level 6 award. Those achieving 70% or higher can gain entry into year 3.
- BSc, Business Studies, TU Dublin, this is a 4-year part-time Level 8 programme with 2 streams Marketing and Finance (Logistics and Supply Chain Management stream in development) to which a student may progress to continue part-time study. Entry at year 2 provided they achieve 60% overall as part of their Level 6 award. Those achieving 70% or higher can gain entry into year 3.
- Bachelor of Business in Supply Chain and Transport Management, MTU Cork, this is a 1-year part-time award at Level 7 programme.
- Bachelor of Business in Supply Chain Management, Carlow Institute of Technology this is a 1-year part-time award at Level 7 programme.
